A NIGHT OUT
[STEREOGRAPH.]
‘Going Out’ [and] ‘Coming In’.
London, Gebhardt, Rottmann & Co., [late 1850s or 1860s].
A pair of two albumen prints in stereo-format, each 7.8 x 6.7 cm., arched tops, hand-tinted, mounted on card 8.4 x 17.3 cm., printed title and publisher’s credit on verso.
An amusing pair of stereos depicting the ‘before’ and ‘after’ a gentleman’s night out.
In ‘Going out’, a wife waggles her finger at her smartly dressed husband as he prepares to leave the house; a young boy looks directly at the viewer. He returns late at night, ruddy-cheeked, with his trousers torn and his top hat flattened, as his wife sits watchfully in the next room, arms firmly crossed.
