Bibliotheca Lindesiana: The Lives and Collections of Alexander William, 25th Earl of Crawford and 8th Earl of Balcarres, and James Ludovic, 26th Earl of Crawford and 9th Earl of Balcarres.
Limited edition, dedicated and presented to the Roxburghe Club, specially bound in quarter morocco for presentation to Members.
The monumental Bibliotheca Lindesiana, assembled by father and son Alexander and James Ludovic Lindsay (largely through Quaritch) was perhaps the finest private library of the nineteenth century. Nicolas Barker considers the library’s purpose and traces the circumstances of its formation in detail, in the process adding considerably to the biographies of the twenty-fifth and twenty-sixth Earls of Crawford, two highly significant figures in the history of collecting.
Provenance: this copy printed and specially bound for presentation to Adrian McLaughlin, with his name printed in red on the list of members of the Roxburghe Club.
