[Speech at Venice] ‘Sezione IV. – N.1’
Very rare, possibly a unique survival – the author’s own copy. In September 1895 William Michael Rossetti was invited to head the jury at the first Venice Biennale (see Some Reminiscences, II, pp. 549–552). Here his speech, in English, proposes the establishment of an international committee to investigate and approve the restoration of important works of art.
‘L’ultimo dei Rossetti’ is a very rare offprint (Torino only in OCLC) not listed by Fredeman (he lists two other articles by the author). The poet and scholar Alice Galimberti (née Schanzer, 1873–1936) wrote widely on the Risorgimento and the Pre-Raphaelites. The other contents in the volume include articles by William Michael Rossetti on Holman Hunt and Ford Madox Hueffer Christina Rossetti.
