A Caffeinated Cornucopia
[TEA AND COFFEE.]
Tea & Coffee Directory of India and the World. Baroda (Vadodara), Shri Laxmi Printing Press, for Bombay (Mumbai) and Calcutta (Kolkata), Indian Export Trade Journal, 1956.
4to, pp. [23], 42, [8], 84, 10, [4], 20, [2], 54, [2], 55–96, [2], 97–120, [2], 121–138, [2], 38, [3]; illustrations in the text, paper sectional tabs; a few very minor stains within; else a very good copy in the original cloth-backed printed yellow boards; boards a little rubbed and stained.
An apparently unrecorded Gujarat-printed directory for 1956 of the global tea and coffee trades.
The first tea and coffee directory to be issued by the Indian Export Trade Journal, the present handbook lays particular emphasis on the Indian market but is international in scope, listing merchants and producers from as far afield as Aden, Australia, Bulgaria, Eritrea, Fiji, French Somaliland, Hong Kong, Madagascar, and the USSR. Interspersed are many charming advertisements (often in colour) and a handful of short articles on various aspects of the trades.
From the somewhat eccentrically worded preface: ‘Need for increasing coffee-drinking habit is essential and that can be done by systematic and persuasive propaganda … if the joint campaign of tea and coffee is carried out, it will certainly help both the commodities in increasing use and its popularity.’
