Wellington does not object to her son switching to the Grenadier Guards ‘if any officer of the same rank can be found to exchange with him’.

Wellington will put her son’s name down for a commission in the Grenadier Guards, and has spoken with Sir George Scovell.
Ponsonby became ensign in the 49th foot in December 1842 and lieutenant in the Grenadier Guards in February 1844.
