First edition of a series of sporting anecdotes, gathered from the author’s experiences in Britain, Scandinavia, and Australia. Gathered mostly from his articles for The Field, the Sporting Sketches were in preparation for the press at the time of the author’s death in November 1865, and appear here posthumously with a short biographical memoir. A naturalist popularly known as the ‘Old Bushman’ who survived for many years as a professional huntsman, Horace William Wheelwright (1815-1865) spent the majority of his life in Sweden and Australia, publishing several insightful and informative works on their natural history and game.
